I'm doing with the classicist author and broadcaster Mary Beard. Together we'll be discussing

politics and power from the Caesars to Sunack, who gets to Winpar, who is excluded,

does power always corrupt, or other examples of leaders who've maintained their integrity while

an authority. And how does the nature of power vary across different times and cultures?

These are just some of the questions that Mary and I will be trying to answer.

Hello everyone and welcome to this intelligent squared and European Council on Foreign Relations

online debate. The West must engage, not confront China. I'm coming to you from this slightly

dark location in Berlin and looking forward to the discussion today. I'm a fellow with the German

Marshall Fund and ECFR and joining us today is Anastasia Lin, Human Rights Activist, Actress,

Ambassador for China Policy at the McDonald's Luria Institute, and Senior Fellow at the Royal

Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights and alongside her will be Kerry Brown, Professor of Chinese Studies

at King's College London and Director of the Lao China Institute. And now we should have the results

coming of the first vote. We now have numbers at 63% in favour of the motion. The West should
