Jordan Schmidt was born in Fargo, ND, and attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN for his undergraduate studies. After entering the Order of Preachers, he came to Washington DC to study theology, graduating from the PFIC in 2009 with an STB/MDiv in theology, and from CUA in 2012 with an STL in biblical theology. Upon his ordination to the priesthood, he was appointed associate pastor of St Mary’s parish in New Haven, CT where he served until 2013. Fr. Jordan next returned to the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC to pursue doctoral studies at CUA. Since earning his PhD in biblical studies in 2018, he has been teaching various courses in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies.

0:49.1	So in the first talk that I gave, I was considering very, very much in a focused way, the teachings that the Book of Revelation contains.
1:02.0	And they are specifically attuned toward the end of the world, the end of the cosmos, as we saw, there is one thing that I wanted to revisit
1:13.3	there as I enter into this talk, which is more about Paul's teaching on the resurrection.
1:19.4	And that is, we saw how the resurrection of the dead is featured in the end times as it's narrated in that book. Okay. That there is,
1:31.3	there are rather, two cosmic battles that see the defeat of all temporal forces and then
1:39.8	the defeat of Satan, the ancient serpent, as well as the defeat of or the destruction of
1:47.0	Hades and death. They're all thrown into the massive lake of fire. And then, and only then,
1:55.0	are the dead raised. And they are raised. They come before God who is seated on the throne, that is Jesus Christ, seated on the throne.
2:04.6	The question is, as someone actually asked me last night, is what's going on with the 144,000 and these people being raised from the dead?
2:15.6	Okay. So you notice that in the course of the book of
2:20.2	Revelation, the 144,000 are mentioned a few different times. And if you read it closely, those
2:27.6	seem to refer to the martyrs, those who have undergone death for the sake of Jesus Christ. Instead of being
2:38.5	complicit with the Roman Empire, as we talked about, these were the holy ones who accepted
2:45.8	death. And they find themselves already in the presence of God.
2:51.3	They are under the altar.
2:53.0	And we know from Revelation 6.5 that they are able to petition to God from this position.
3:00.4	They are praying to God already, asking how much longer will it be before God's judgment comes, before God puts things right?
