Summary

"Being summer, I took off my shirt...." well I'm not taking my shirt off but I am bringing you a summertime treat I think, with an excellent audience recording of the band's performance in Denver on July 14, 1981. As I listened to this tape it just struck me that the feeling of being there that a good audience recording gives you was perfect for this time of the year, when many of us have been lucky enough to experience some live music in person.. I do hope you have!

This show has some excellent energy throughout, the Minglewood has a couple very nice Jerry solos, the 'Cassidy' is nicely paced, and leads into a sweet 'To Lay Me Down'. Weir has some fun with 'Me & My Uncle' which is blistering.. as is the outstanding 'Big Railroad Blues'

The highlight of the set is the Birdsong>Sailor>Saint, however. It is only the the 14th electric birdsong since 9/15/73, and the only time that Sailor comes out of Birdsong. It is excellent.

0:06.8	I was struggling as to which show to play this week,
0:09.6	and I tried a number of really nice shows.
0:12.1	I can't happen upon this one, the one that I finally picked.
0:15.8	This comes to us from McNichols Arena in Denver, Colorado.
0:19.2	July 14th, 1981. One of the reasons I picked this show,
0:23.6	besides the fact that it has a great first set.
0:27.6	It's an audience recording, but it's really well done audience recording.
0:31.4	And it just seems like with it being summertime,
0:33.7	and lots of us have seen some live dead and company,
0:36.8	or live shows in one type or another.
0:38.7	Some fills been out there doing some great live shows it.
0:42.1	The energy of a live recording, an audience recording,
0:45.9	is a bit different than a soundboard recording.
0:47.8	And I really love the energy on this tape.
0:50.1	And I decided that it would be a good one to bring to you this week.
0:53.3	It starts out with cold rain and snow.
0:54.8	Jerry Flubs lyrics a little bit, but still nice.
0:57.0	Then they really roar on Newmingwood Blues follows.
1:00.4	Sweet friend of the devil comes after that and guides Cassidy.
1:03.8	Then we get Jerry doing a nice version to lay me down into a really up-tempo meal,
