Hey there, happy Friday, Friday the 13th. From CNN, I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know.

Washington is headed for yet another partial government shutdown. You probably heard that before. It's the third one since President Donald Trump began his second term just over a year ago.

Funding for the Department of Homeland Security expires at midnight and the odds of a last

minute deal between the White House and Democrats look slim. You can tell just by listening to

House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries and House Speaker Mike Johnson. Funding for ICE and the Department

of Homeland Security should not move forward in the absence of dramatic changes that are bold, meaningful, and transformational.

Period. Full stop. The ICE funding is already done for the entirety of the Trump administration.

So they're not affecting that in any way. What they're going to do is shut down FEMA, Coast Guard,

TSA, and things that hurt real people. Now, nearly all DHS employees will remain on the job, but many won't get paid until a funding bill is passed.

So earlier this week, we got a better than expected jobs report with some caveats.

And today we're seeing that inflation took a big step in the right direction, with a new

eight-month low.

Consumer prices are up 2.4% year over year in January.

That is better than predicted, and it's sharply down from December's 2.7% rate.
