We start today with a disaster in the Washington, D.C. area. An American Airlines jet coming from

Wichita, Kansas, was about to land at Reagan National Airport when it collided mid-air with a military Black Hawk helicopter.

There were 60 passengers and four crew members aboard the plane, and there were three soldiers on the helicopter for a training flight.

Search and rescue efforts are now underway in the Botomac River, but as of early this morning, no survivors have been found.

And officials say there have been at least some deaths.

It's not clear at this point what may have caused the crash.

At the time, Reagan National Airport reported clear skies.

Now all takeoffs and landings have been put on hold,

and the airport will stay closed, at least until later this morning.

The new Transportation Secretary, who was just sworn in yesterday,
