Summary

Day 70: Genesis 32:1-21: Moving Towards Peace: Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional In today’s episode, Rachael studies a critical moment in Jacob’s life from Genesis 32, where he faces a long-anticipated confrontation with his brother Esau. After years of deception and broken trust, Jacob must navigate his fear and guilt, relying on God for guidance. Instead of using manipulation as he had in the past, Jacob approaches the situation with humility and a sense of responsibility for his actions. This moment becomes a turning point where Jacob shifts from self-sufficiency to full dependence on God, learning that true peace doesn’t come through control, but through grace, generosity, and trust in God’s sovereignty. Rachael challenges us to consider how we approach conflict in our own lives—can we move forward with the same humility and trust in God, even when reconciliation seems difficult or impossible? Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

Have you ever faced a conversation or a meeting that you were absolutely dreading?

0:16.6

Maybe it was with someone that you hurt or even someone that had hurt you. Maybe it was a

0:22.3

relationship that had been strained for a long time and you didn't even know if peace was possible.

0:27.6

If you've ever been in that place, then you understand exactly where Jacob is in this part of

0:32.5

the story. The last time Jacob saw his brother Esau, Esau was threatening to kill him. It's why he left in the

first place. Now, 20 years later, Jacob is headed home and he knows this confrontation is waiting

for him. But something is different about Jacob this time. Instead of just relying on his usual

tactics of manipulation and strategy, we instead now see

0:56.1

climpses of humility. We see him acknowledging his own wrongs. We see him with self-awareness.

1:02.5

And most importantly, we start to see him leaning on God. For the original audience,

the Israelites remember, who themselves were navigating a complicated

relationship and learning how to trust God in very uncertain situations, this story would have felt

really personal. It would have offered a model for how to move forward in healing and reconciliation,

1:24.2

not through control, but through humility, grace, and faith. As we listen to Jacob's story,

1:30.7

it invites us to reflect on our own relationships. How might God be calling us to approach others

1:36.5

with that same kind of humility and courage? If you're just joining us, we are doing a slow walk

1:41.6

through the book of Genesis to make sure you really understand

it because the book of Genesis really does impact how we read the rest of scripture. We're in Genesis
