0:00.0	Hey Bible readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble and I'm your host for the Bible recap.
0:13.2	Not long ago, on day 289, we read about Jesus sending out the 12 apostles in Matthew 10.
0:18.4	It's possible that the account we read about today with 72 people is a different scenario
0:22.4	where Jesus gives the same instructions or it could be the same one.
0:26.0	If it's the same one, then why are the numbers so different? Was it 72 or 12? Probably both.
0:31.8	It's likely that Matthew is primarily focused on telling the personal story he and the
0:35.7	other 11 apostles encountered, whereas Luke, who wasn't an apostle, prefers to zoom out
0:40.8	on the whole group of people Jesus sent out.
0:43.2	So if this is the same story, these accounts are not contradictory, even though it may
0:46.7	look like it on the surface.
0:48.1	It's just that the writers have different goals in mind.
0:51.0	The job of these 36 pairs is to let the towns know that Jesus is the Messiah and he's
0:55.1	about to swing by personally.
0:57.2	He instructs them twice in verses 9 and 11 to tell people that the kingdom of God has
1:01.7	come near to them.
1:03.2	As ambassadors for Christ and agents of his healing power, they're bringing the benefits
1:07.6	and truth of the kingdom near to those who are far from the kingdom.
1:11.1	We'll continue to read and learn more about the kingdom as we move on. Jesus prepares
1:15.4	the 72 for rejection, but he promises them provision.
1:18.8	When they return, they are overjoyed.
1:21.0	They feel so powerful.
1:22.8	They can't believe they can personally do the things they've seen Jesus doing all along,
