A few things before we get started.

First, parts of this episode will be far more from a personal perspective than a usual

episode of Gone Cold.

Every case we cover is immensely important to us, but as long time listeners know, Carla's

story, the bonds we've made with her family, schoolmates, and friends, and the developments

in the case since we started the podcast have kept us emotionally engaged, going on

five years.

So our more personal approach here is inevitable and impossible to avoid.

We will not be summarizing the details of Carla's story at the beginning of this episode,

as we have in our previous updates and hopes that y'all are familiar or will at least stop

this and listen to our very first several episodes to get familiar before proceeding.

However, some of the testimony covered here will go over the details of what happened

that night in February of 1974 and the aftermath.

On that note, it would be impossible for us to cover every single aspect of the first

day of the capital murder trial of Glenn Samuel McCurley, but since I had the weekend

to work on this, day one will likely have the most in-depth coverage.

I'm going to do my best to highlight the most consequential aspects while going over

the days proceedings and testimony in the order in which they occurred, for the most part.

While there will be some verbatim quotes going forward, a large part of what follows

will be my paraphrasing and interpretation of the first day of trial.

This episode is in large part based on my perspective, but there will be plenty of facts

have no fear.
