0:00.0	Hey Bible readers, I'm Tara Lee Cobble, and I'm your host for the Bible recap.
0:13.2	About seven weeks after leaving Egypt, the Israelites finally make it to the wilderness
0:17.5	of Sinai, at the base of Mount Sinai.
0:20.1	We've seen this mountain referred to earlier in Scripture as the Mountain of God, and it's
0:23.8	probably also the same place as Mount Horib.
0:26.7	It seems to be one of God's favorite places.
0:29.5	Here God calls to Moses from out of the mountain, and Moses passes his words along to the
0:33.8	people.
0:34.8	These people who, as far as we can tell, seem to complain more than they praise, promise
0:39.7	to do everything God commands of them.
0:42.3	We'll see.
0:44.0	God says he's going to meet the people at Mount Sinai, so they need to consecrate themselves.
0:48.4	This is the same thing he called them to do for the firstborns, and it basically means
0:52.2	set them apart and prepare them to encounter God.
0:55.4	It usually involves a bath and some clean clothes.
0:58.4	And Moses also tells them to abstain from sex during this time, not because women are
1:01.9	evil, but because things like seminal fluids and blood are symbols of life and death.
1:06.7	As far as their laws for cleanliness are concerned, to be depleted of either of those things
1:11.1	points to the depletion of life, which wasn't considered an appropriate way to honor the
1:15.3	presence of the giver of life.
1:17.8	When the people come to meet God, they cannot touch the mountain or they'll die.
1:22.1	And if someone does touch it, no one is allowed to touch that person.
