I'm doing my best. Today we are hitting the climax of Exodus with the miraculous deliverance

in the crossing of the Red Sea, something that the Israelites will remember forever. So before we

Lord, that you will not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom

name we pray, amen. We left off with the institution of the Passover.

And here in chapter 13, God lays out more of the foundational institutions for the Israelites

with the consecration of the firstborn here in verse one.

The Lord said to Moses, consecrate to me, all the firstborn, whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel,

both of man and of beast, is mine. So this word consecrate actually means to make holy, to set

apart, it means to sacrifice so that you could show that it belongs to God. And why does the firstborn

belong to God? Why is he making this such a big deal?

Because remember that Israel is considered the firstborn of God. God declared that. That is the very

reason that he dealt with Egypt's firstborn. So this is his way of saying, hey, remember,

you all are my firstborn, so I need you to give me your first, give me your best. And his intention

with the firstborn from the very beginning was that these would become the priests. But eventually,

the only ones who are allowed to do so come from the tribe of Levi, who God will declare as
