0:13.2	Today we open our reading with God telling Moses and Aaron that Pharaoh is not going to
0:17.6	listen to them.
0:19.2	God says he's going to harden Pharaoh's heart against the request they're bringing.
0:22.8	That's a pretty tough order.
0:25.1	He also mentioned this yesterday in 421.
0:28.0	One thing this reveals to us is that God is sovereign over hearts.
0:32.4	If you're new to this idea or it's troublesome for you, resist the urge to read into God's
0:37.2	motives or draw conclusions about him based on this.
0:40.2	For now, let's just notice that he can change hearts.
0:44.6	God also mentions several times that he's doing all of this so that Israel will know that
0:49.5	he is the Lord.
0:51.2	The meaning of the word no doesn't just refer to some cognizant ascent to this reality.
0:56.9	It has more to do with the person's posture in response to that truth.
1:01.2	God wants them to believe it in their bones, not just acknowledge it as a fact, and he wants
1:06.6	their lives to reflect it.
1:09.2	The plagues will serve this same purpose for the Egyptians, for them to know that he is

1:14.0	But unfortunately, it's possible to know that God is the Lord of all and still not yield
1:18.2	to him.
1:19.2	Remember the sins of God we've encountered a few times, including the one called Satan,
1:23.2	the accuser?
