Welcome to The Treatment. I'm Elvis Mitchell.

A mere 18 years ago, the Simpsons got its start as a series, created by Matt Graining.

And Amir 18 years ago, director of David Silverman started with the show.

And he's also the director of The Simpsons movie.

And he's sitting right across me.

David, thanks for being here.

Oh, pleasure.

Pleasure, Elvis.

Well, I make one correction because when I started working on the show, it was a mere 20 years ago if we include the Tracy Olman show.

That's right. You actually are the first to do with one of the shorts for the Tracy Allman show.

Yes, yes. I was there at the very beginning, doing the very first short with Matt and two other animators, Bill Cop and Wes Archer. It's called Good Night Simpsons.

And it was just Homer saying, well, good night, son.

And then introducing each character saying good night.

Not that the characters were really formed back then,

because we were making it up as we went along.

It's interesting too, because if you watch the show,

you may know David from an appearance at the end of one of the shows, or he shows you how to draw Bart Simpson very easily, or he makes a cameo in several episodes such as the itchy and scratchy and poochie show.

Exactly.

We can be seen with this tuba in the background.

They threw a tube in the background just to make sure that everybody knew who knew me that it was

in fact me. Now, what's the movie about? The movie is about the Simpson family, oddly enough,
