Larry is joined by journalist Dave Weigel and they begin their conversation by discussing Weigel’s career, beginning with his time as an editor for the Washington Post on through to his current role as politics writer at Semafor. They then examine the power of Donald Trump’s cult of personality and all the ways it’s shaping the modern GOP (9:46). Next they tackle the confusing narratives coming out of the war in Ukraine and how America’s attitudes toward it are being shaped by hot button cultural issues (34:11). After the break, Larry and Dave break down the individual lanes Vivek Ramaswamy and Robert Kennedy Jr. have created for themselves in the current presidential race (52:40). They end the pod by breaking down the differences between common sense and conspiracy theories while offering tips on how to find reliable sources in today’s media landscape (1:03:56). Hi, this is Ben Lindbergh, and Jessica Clemens, and we are the hosts of

Button Mash, the ringer's video game podcast on the ringerverse feed.

We are in the midst of the biggest blockbuster gaming month either of us can recall.

We're talking about Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros, Alan Wake, Five Nights of

Frays, Assassin's Creed Mirage. Woo! We will have our hands full. You can have your ears full

with us talking about these wonderful video games. On the ringerverse feed weekly throughout

this month on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.

All right, welcome back everybody. It's time to catch up on what the hell is going on in the world.

I have no idea. I've napping paying attention. I got a little fed up with everything for a while.

I took kind of a, I'll call it a toxic break, a break from all the toxicity of what's going on,

politics and all that stuff. But at some point, you got to jump back in. You got to figure out

what's happening and what better person to have on the pod this week. Then Dave Weigo,

he's the former political reporter for Washington Post, and now he's contributed to

something for it with his column of Americana. He has his finger on the pulse of what is happening,

not only in the town, but in the world of journalism itself. Dave, welcome to Black on the Air.

It's good to have you here. Oh, it's really good to be here. I'm honored. I've been listening a lot

of your recent guests and thinking, why me? I've been doing a bunch of some stuff for them,

but yeah, thank you, Rob May. Well, I appreciate you being on. You know what it is. When I think

about who I want to have on, I like the fact that you've been in and out of the big game,

and you've been on your own, you've been independent, you know, kind of had a little independent thing.

Been in a place like the post, you know, but now you're doing this. I like the fact that,

you know, you're trying to be true to just what real reporting is. It seems like you've
