You'll actually hear my talk radio origin story in this episode

because our guest, the great Dave Sims of the Seattle Mariners,

was a talk show host too at WFA in a New York in the 80s and the 90s.

Dave Sims is an amazing guy, a great broadcaster.

I'm so glad that the Mariners playoff run and their relevance

the last couple of seasons has brought some national light to him

as a local baseball guy. I'm sure a lot of you though know him from his NFL

work with Westwood One and a lot of other things.

We get into all of it. I love this conversation.

But I wanted to tell you about the roots of my play by play obsession

while I have a minute here. Picture me Spiegel, four years old,

playing with match box cars on the basement floor of our suburban New Jersey home.

My big brother Bobby has an AMFM radio up high on a shelf

is silver antenna fully extended out a little half-sized storm window

just above ground level. And through a crackle and a hum comes a red-sox game.

It's 1975 or 76. On the wall in my brother's room,

he's got painted a rough version of Fenway Park and he's got the whole diamond laid out.
