so important and dear to my heart and, you know, because of the players of color and all that

you guys had to endure and go through. And I think most people don't realize that.

You know, the doors were open for us because of others.

You know, African-American players just don't get a chance to put on the uniform and play

Major League Baseball.

That wasn't happening.

Yeah.

Had it not been for doors being open and had not been for others who had to sacrifice.

So, you know, the sacrifice is real and it's real to me as an African-American player

because I know what it was like playing in the major leagues and all I had to endure because of my color.

You know, I was never, never good enough, you know, for their standards, you know, for the,

you know, media standards and everything. It always was more, you know, but for me, I just,

I wanted to play baseball, you know, and I grew up in, and I didn't grow up in a great home,

you know, I grew up in a broken home and separated and, you know, and I always talk about the fact that, uh, my pain led me to my greatness, but my greatness would eventually lead me to my destructive behavior, you know, and that's real life, you know, there's real things that we all have to deal with.
