Today's talk comes from pastor Ben Stewart.

Well, when I was a kid, my dad used to pick us up.

We'd go to his hometown of Beeville, and we would go to parties

or barbecues or various get-togethers with him and his friends and neighbors and all kinds of people

from town.

And inevitably, as we were there, some adult would ask me,

hey, who do you belong to?

Whose kid or you?

And I would say, Bobby Stewart is my dad.

And without exception, some pavilion would go,

Bobby Stewart had kids.

And then they would say something to the effect of your dad.

They would sort of stare off from the distance for a bit.

And then they would say something like,

he was pretty wild, some things like that, right?

That was a normal sentence I heard all through my childhood.

So you can imagine my surprise, as a teenager,

on the day my dad came into our house and was standing in our hallway and that was not a normal place I intersected with my dad.

Normally he'd pick us up in the driveway.

He was in the hallway of my house and gave me an extended hug, which was also not a normal thing we did.

But I'll never forget him pulling away and with tears in his eyes my dad said to me
