Good morning in the news this morning. A Dept.

Township Police officer died weeks after being shot in the line of duty back in March.

27-year-old officer Robert Schissler passed away at a hospital on May 7th.

The Dept. Township Police Department released a message on Facebook confirming the

officer's passing and expressing their condolences.

A procession was held on Sunday evening for the Fallen New Jersey Officer outside of Penn

Hospital. Dept. Township Police along with friends and family student solidarity as the officer's

body was draped in a police flag and transported ceremoniously to the medical examiner.

Authorities say the shooting happened on March 10th while officer Schissler conducted a pedestrian

stop on Delcy Drive in Deptford. At some point, authorities say the officer chased the pedestrian

on foot, a struggle in suit and then gunfire erupted. The officer and the pedestrian,

in 24-year-old Mitchell, Negron, Jr. were both injured by the gunfire Negron was pronounced dead

at the scene. So, to say a fellow officer applied a tourniquet before officer Schissler was

taken to Cooper Medical Center in a patrol car. Officials that the weapon was recovered at the scene.

Schissler was four-year veteran. There was no word yet on the officer's funeral.
