Today we also remember a saintly couple, St. Julian, and St. Basilissa, a remarkable couple from

Egypt who chose to live a life of holy dedication. Though married,

they mutually agreed to live in perpetual chastity, dedicating their lives to God through

prayer, charity, and service to the poor. Their home became a beacon of compassion, transformed

into a hospital where they cared for the sick and the needy. At times, their charity extended to

as many as a thousand people. Basilica cared for the women, the needy. At times, their charity extended to as many as a thousand people.

Basilissa cared for the women, while Julian, known as the Hospitallerian, looked after the men.

Together, they exemplified Christian love in action.

Basilissa endured seven waves of persecution, but passed away peacefully after a life of unwavering faith. Julian, however,

lived on to face even greater trials. He ultimately became a martyr for his faith, alongside a young

boy named Chelsus, a priest named Antony, and others, including Marcionilla, the mother of Chelsus.

Their sacrifices left an indelible mark on this early

church. Over the centuries, numerous churches and hospitals have been dedicated to their memory.
