O God, who on this day didst manifest thine only begotten son to the Gentiles

by the guidance of a star,

graciously grant that we, who know thee now by

faith, may be led even to contemplate the beauty of thy majesty.

Today we also honor St. William of Borg, a man of noble birth whose life was a testament to

humility, piety, and devotion. Born into the distinguished family of the

Count of Nevere, William was guided in his early years by his uncle, Peter the Hermit, Archdeacon

of Suassan. From a young age, he rejected the allure of worldly pleasures, devoting himself

instead to prayer, study, and acts of penance.

William's journey to holiness led him through several stages of religious life.

First, he served as a canon in Suassan and later in Paris.

But feeling called to a life of greater solitude and discipline, he joined the austere community

at Granmont.

Eventually, he entered the Cistercian order known for its sanctity

and he was chosen as a prior and later an abbot of two successive monasteries in the year twelve hundred
