Hey, what about me?

0:23.3

Oh yeah, and sometimes featuring Raph, ah, Hollywood, Granger. Hey, welcome back to another episode of the D6 Generation, a PIP.

0:47.5

This is a very special PIP because it's introducing a member of the D6 plus one generation.

My youngest daughter, Kit, How you doing, Kit?

0:54.6

Good.

0:55.0

I'm doing really good.

0:56.0

Last time you invited me on here was to talk about my little pony when I was about 12. So, you know, it's a little bit different today. It is a little different. Kit is on her way to college this fall. You excited about that, Kit? Yeah, a month away. A month away. It's kind of exciting. She's basically stuck in the house since COVID on and off,

doing remote learning and whatnot,

0:53.8

so kind of excited to get into real world.

0:55.2

I lose access to all into the real world.

1:13.1

I lose access to all these great board games, though, as soon as I leave.

1:11.6

Yeah, we are sitting next to the wall of board games, which is pretty exciting. So Kit and I've been playing games a long time, obviously, as many long-time listeners will know. But lately we've been playing a lot of games together Kit with the oldest sister out of the house and just kind of hanging out together All All the two-player games that I love to play, and they make less of those, I feel like, so it's so hard to find good ones for two people. Yeah, well, I, part of the problem is, for my collection, I kept collecting miniature games, which are great two-player games. Kit's not a huge miniature game fan, but she loves board games, and so I've been sort of questing for good two player games, which sort of leads

us to Cloud Spire Kit. And we've been kind of going through, we played some great. And I think maybe

1:50.1

we'll in the future we'll do a mulling mechanics on asymmetric games, which basically a fancy way

1:55.9

of saying the sides don't work the same, right? Yeah. We tried a bunch of these lately.

2:02.9

Stronghold was a big favorite, the classic stronghold.

2:05.6

One side's playing the attackers of a castle, the other side's playing a defender. We really got into Root. I mean, Root is great. The pieces are so, so pretty. I love the little one. We'll talk more about Root. Root is total as asymmetric as it gets probably, and also looks really cute and plays fun.

2:03.3

But the latest game,

2:20.0

the latest hotness, is actually a game called Cloud Spire, which I've been eyeing. I saw it at

2:27.3

GenCon this past fall, GenCon 21. And then I was like, wow, it looks really cool. And it's by a company called Chip Theory Games, and their big thing is poker chips in their games. And so Cloud Spire has tons of poker chips in it, which means the box is extremely heavy. So I was like, this is too heavy to travel on the plane with. So I decided, nah, I won't get it yet, although I looked at it. And then I saw it again when Kit and I went to Pax East. It was sitting there, and I'm like, oh, this looks really cool, but I'm not so sure not to carry it around the con, and it's super heavy. But then I went to a brand new game store that I just opened up in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. MadHack Games is fantastic. and there they had a copy of, uh, of Chip Theer, of, of, uh, of, of, of, uh, of Cloudsfire. And I was like, oh my God, here it is. And, you know, it's a new game store. Wanted to support him. Plus they're having a 10% opening day sale. So that's really cool. So, uh, I grabbed the, um, I grabbed the copy of the, of the box. And here we are, Kit. Yeah. He sent me a text when he got it and he's like, look, I bought the 30 pound game that I couldn't fit in my luggage. And I'm like, oh, Lord, what did he buy? What have we done? Now, Kit, what was your first thoughts when we got this thing home? So we got, and it's a big box. It's like very, very sort of square and tall um and what did you think when we got at home and opened it up and you started looking all the components what did what do you i thought it was scary you buy a lot of games where it's like oh it'll be two hours and then we sit down and it's like an entire saturday it's been like six hours trying to figure out this game we're not even halfway through so i was a little bit little bit nervous. But I was like, oh, it's going to be more difficult than Root, which I really liked. But then I found out it's like not as scary as it looks. It looks really intimidating and it was surprisingly simple. Yeah, it was a little intimidating. But what drew me into it was, let's talk about the components and the art, though. So first thing that kind of blows you away when you open this up and you don't even get a chance to absorb the rules or how it works, is that you look at, you open the box up, what kind of sound does a box make when it opens get? Kind of like, there you go. Yeah, very good. Are you slam it down on the table and the poker chips? Just, it's more like a thomp and a little shake.
