My guest this week has won a Grammy.

She's won a Tony for Best Actress.

She's won an Emmy and she twice has been nominated for an Academy Award.

She is the wildly talented singer and actress, Cynthia Arevo, born and raised in London

to Nigerian immigrant parents.

She dreamed since she was a very little girl of being on stage, of performing, of acting,

of singing, and my goodness has she lived out her dream.

She made her first name for herself in the color purple off West End production of that

small theater.

But when she caught wind that Oprah, yes, Oprah Winfrey wanted to bring the color purple

back to Broadway, Cynthia jumped at the chance.

Best in the lead role made famous in the film by Wippy Goldberg.

She won a Tony award for her performance in the color purple.

She added a Grammy.

She added an Emmy and the world opened up to her Hollywood set up and took notice.

She was cast as Harriet Tubman, a role for which she was nominated for two Academy Awards,

one for her acting performance, another for the song she sang in the 2019 film Harriet.

Just this year she played another American icon.

Her wreath of Franklin in the National Geographic series Genius.

She was nominated for an Emmy for that role.
