However, just what exactly the Tesla chief executive can do to boost Twitter's business by such a sum is unclear.

In Europe, French voters are gearing up to select their next French president and conditions are tricky for incumbent Manuel Macron.

The war in Ukraine has sparked a surge in energy prices and Macron is asking French people to work harder for longer.

Meanwhile, his rival Marine Le Pen is gaining ground in polls, having wooed voters with economic policies

aimed at improving the fortunes of the man on the street.
