Summary

This coming Sunday we will be celebrating the birthday of our Church on Pentecost! The Holy Spirit is still here, guiding the Church and active, but this is a special time to renew our own commitment to going out and converting the world. To get you ready for this work, we are reviewing the seven steps to conversion on the podcast this week. They are: Hearing the Gospel, Believing, Repenting of Sins, Confessing Christ, Baptism (or Confession for those already baptized), Living in Trust and Living in Compassion.

0:34.6	Beatty is a really interesting saint.
0:36.9	He was a monk. He spent his whole life living in monasteries.
0:41.4	He survived the plague a couple of times, and he wrote a great number of books. He, in fact, is called the father of English history, because he was one of the first people to record English history.
0:57.2	Now, St. Bedeh reminds us that although the church has done so many great things in bringing
1:03.6	the sacraments to our lives, but also the church built up Western civilization through the
1:09.8	monasteries, because when the monasteries were built,
1:13.0	it gave intellectual people like St. Beattie, the time, the space, and the protection
1:19.9	to actually write books, to think thoughts, to share ideas. Before that, life was so difficult that those things weren't really happening.
1:32.1	No one had written down any history until the 600s when St. Bedey did it.
1:38.0	And the only reason he was able to do it is because of the church, because of the monastery. Now, St. Beatty not only wrote
1:47.6	about history, he wrote many scripture commentaries. He was a priest. He was incredibly
1:53.5	dedicated to Jesus Christ, to His Holy Word, and to him present, fully present in the Blessed Sacrament.
2:03.0	Even though he was very intellectual and even well known during his lifetime, he died very
2:08.9	poor and very happy.
