Summary

Being a follower of Jesus Christ demands that we be His hands and His feet on this earth. We must demonstrate our love of Jesus Christ by serving those who are physically and spiritually poor. To help us in this work, the Church has defined seven works of corporal mercy and seven works of spiritual mercy. Let's learn about the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy together this week, and get to work being Jesus's hand and feet.

0:39.9	Hey there, Sprouse. Today is Wednesday, May 10th, 2003. Today is also the feast day of St. Damien of Molokai. And he is the patron of our B.S. St. Kitts Club this month. He's also the very reason why we are talking about corporal and spiritual works of mercy this week. So before we talk about his incredible
0:46.7	life and the powerful example that he has left for all of us, please join me in praying
0:52.7	the Memerare, which we are learning this month in the
0:55.6	B. a saint, kids club. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.
1:02.0	Remember, almost gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to thy protection
1:08.9	implored thy help or sought thine intercession, was left unaided.
1:15.2	Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O virgins of virgins, my mother.
1:21.2	To thee do I come before thee I stand, sinful and sourful.
1:26.7	O mother of the one incarnate despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me.
1:33.2	Amen.
1:34.6	So, Saint Damien of Molokai, who was an incredible example of how we are called to love both people's bodies, give them comfort and healing physically,
1:48.6	but also care for their souls. Now this week, we have already talked about the corporal works
1:55.3	of mercy, which include offering food, drink, burying the dead, caring for people's bodies, visiting them, caring for them
2:04.6	when they are sick, offering them shelter. And these are all things that St. Damien did,
2:09.7	but he also did many spiritual works of mercy where we care for someone's soul. So St. Damien of Molokai was actually born in
2:22.1	Belgium. As a young man, he discerned a call to the priesthood, but before he was ordained, he actually
2:29.3	was sent as a missionary to Hawaii. Shortly after arriving in the islands of Hawaii,
2:36.8	he was ordained a priest and he served for many years as a parish priest there.
2:42.0	He built churches, he offered the sacraments, he learned the native language.
2:47.4	But after a few years, he began to hear about an area, a part of an island called Molokai.
2:56.4	Now, St. Damien lived during the time before leprosy had been cured.
