Welcome to Critical Hit, a major spoilers, Dungeons & Dragons podcast. So glad that you could join us this week. Before we get into the action in the fields of autumn, let's head to the email bag.

0:24.0

There's a bunch of questions that keep coming in even after we do the email bag episode. People write in such as Connor. Hi guys, it's Connor. Hey Connor. Hi Connor. Hello, I've been listening to your podcast for an age. I picked up at episode 15 of listen to all your episodes about four time.

I love you guys so much that in Guild Wars 2, two of my characters are Camus and Trell, and I'm about to make torque Randus and my own edition and my own edition to the crew. Sorry Robin Steven.

0:55.0

I don't think we're going to answer this question.

0:58.0

After my fans were rant or praise, here's my question. How when you start a campaign, do you get the players to go where you want them without shouting at them what you want them to do? Also, how do you spell Randus?

1:09.0

He spells an R-A-N-D-I-C-E, Randice. Like Candice, yes, like Candice, which he spells C-A-N-M-I-S.

1:19.0

Chinese.

1:31.0

Yeah, there's incentivizing them to go where you want them to go.

1:34.0

Carrot, let's stick.

1:36.0

And there's the stick. You know, you could punish them for not going the direction you want them to go.

1:42.0

Or you could put the option in their hands and no matter what the option they choose, that's the direction you're wanting them to go anyways.

1:49.0

Yeah, that's true. Give us an example there, D&D Brian.

1:54.0

Give us an example of the carrot and not the stick.

1:57.0

Well, I mean, yeah, it's basically just giving them, you know, letting them know based on their character objectives, where they'd want to go.

2:07.0

Let them know where the options are. Have contingencies, 40 options, because, you know, players do often like to throw unexpected results your way.

2:18.0

Oh, really?

2:21.0

So, you know, be on the alert for that. But for the most part, yeah, I mean, I mean, ideas provide them with what they're winning for their character, not necessarily physical rewards.

2:30.0

But if that is what they want, do provide that.

2:33.0

Okay.
