| 0:41.3 | When I worked in residential treatment, I was able to take part in some seriously amazing growth. |
| 0:53.3 | So I worked with these girls who had been through hell. |
| 0:56.0 | They'd been through trauma and dysfunctional families. |
| 0:58.0 | Many of them were experiencing multiple mental illnesses at once. |
| 1:02.0 | So like eating disorders, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, complex PTSD, |
| 1:06.0 | borderline personality disorder, suicide attempts. |
| 1:09.0 | Their situation often included other difficult medical or |
| 1:13.3 | educational or situational challenges. And most of these young women were in treatment because |
| 1:18.4 | their parents were so worried for their safety that they had no other option. And the coolest |
| 1:23.8 | part was we were able to see some really impressive and amazing changes occur within this group of girls because we built a relationship of trust and they worked their tails off and so did we. |
| 1:37.3 | And also, you know, the amount of intervention really helped. These young women and their families, they got dozens or hundreds of interactions a week to help them change their habits and to learn new skills and to resolve old trauma. And really, |
| 1:51.5 | the level of support was, you know, incredible. And that helped a lot of these young women get |
| 1:57.6 | better. And while most people don't have the opportunity to go to |
| 2:01.2 | residential treatment if they need it, there is one thing that I've taken from |
| 2:05.4 | my experience there that helps me be a better therapist now than I was before. |
| 2:09.2 | And that's taking a team approach to treatment. So at that residential treatment center, |
