In this first episode of 'Clear Intentions’ (formerly the Minimalist Moms podcast) I reconnect with friend, Ginny Yurich - the founder of 1000 Hours Outside. In this conversation we cover how she juggles multiple roles as a homeschooling mom, author, and outdoor advocate. What does she outsource? If anything? I had to know! And, of course, I couldn’t let Ginny go without discussing ways to spend our time outdoors - specifically she discusses encouragement for teenagers, tired moms and for those living in colder environments.
Ginny is a Michigan homeschooling mother of five and the founder of 1000 Hours Outside, a global movement, media company and lifestyle brand meant to bring back balance between virtual life and real life.
She is a thought-leader in the world of nature-based play and its benefits for children, and one of her top priorities is to inspire parents to invest in spending time in God’s creation with their children. Her 1000 Hours Outside Challenge spans the globe and many people from all walks of life look to her for inspiration as well as practical tips on how to put down the screens and get outside.
Ginny has a BS in Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Michigan, she loves growing zinnias, and she is also an author and illustrator. Her most recent book, 1000 Hours Outside: Activities to Match Screen Time with Green Time (DK Books) was published in December, 2022. She also has three self-published books: 1000 Hours Outside: Prioritize Nature, Reclaim Childhood, and Experience a Fuller Life (May, 2022), 1000 Hours Outside Activity book (April, 2021), and her children’s book The Little Farmhouse in West Virginia (February, 2019). Her newest book, Until the Streetlights Come On (Baker Books) launches in November, 2023.
