Summary

Minneapolis City Council Member Latrisha Vetaw (Ward 4) joins Jay and Kenny at the Crabby Coffee Shop for an in-depth conversation on the current state of Minneapolis politics.

She opens up about the deep divisions within the City Council — particularly the split with the Democratic Socialists — and shares her perspective on how a city should actually be run. From public safety and housing to economic development and quality of life, Vetaw discusses what’s working, what’s broken, and the practical steps needed to create a safer, stronger, and more thriving Minneapolis for everyone.

Raw, honest, and insightful — this episode pulls back the curtain on local governance in one of America’s most watched cities.

My name is Philippe Cunningham, and I'm the Minneapolis City Council member representing the fourth ward in North Minneapolis. I entered through the back of the stage, and I exited through the back of the stage. I did not know that said defund police on the front of the stage until I saw the picture in the New York Times. Come on now. Let's look at the videotape. This is you stepping on that stage from the front, and that side is really big. Right there. So this is a part that's, like, not fair. Like, I'm human. And, like, so I was embarrassed because I didn't know that that was on the front of the stage. This isn't funny. This is about protecting our children, our community, our neighbors. With all the crime in our community, let's not get rid of police. Let's make them better. Northsiders can handle a lot, but you always have to tell us the truth. And Philippe Cunningham is not doing that. Come on now. That set the hook right there. Come on now. That set the hook. Lettricia, welcome to the crabby coffee shop. Oh, thank you for having me. Yeah. We've been looking forward to this for a long time. Kenny's all worked up about it. Yeah. It turns out you and Soucheret are buddies. Yes, I know Joe. Joe's a good guy. He's all right. You know. Yeah. Depends on which day you catch him. But yeah, he's a good guy. Joe's a good guy. He's funny. He's fun. You know, you check in with him, and you're always getting a shocker. He's like you.
