When this episode of Newt's World has become out of weeks of stay at home orders and begin

to reopen businesses and bring our economy back to life, tracking COVID-19 outbreaks and

reporting those outbreaks in real time is critical to keeping states open, even if another

wave of COVID-19 comes in the fall.

State and local efforts to monitor, control and prevent the occurrence in spread of infections

and non-infectious diseases are dependent on timely, high-quality data obtained from

disease surveillance.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now required to collect additional testing

information, such as demographic data, but they don't actually have the capability to

process it as of yet.

I was alerted to the important issue of real-time disease outbreak reporting by a health

data management company called Percivia.

are recommending that a similar system be deployed nationally.
