Welcome to the sports media podcast. I'm your host, Richard Deich. My producer is Patrick Antonetti. One guest on this episode, but someone I've wanted to talk to for quite some time because I think she's really done a fantastic job.

0:22.2

Chloe Peterson is the Indiana Fever and Women's Basketball Reporter for the Indy Star.

0:27.0

She's obviously had a pretty fascinating year covering one of the most prominent athletes in the United States, and that is Caitlin Clark.

0:33.4

She started at the Indy Star in May of 2023, like Caitlin Clark, a graduate of the University of Iowa.

0:39.1

We'll talk to her about that.

0:42.0

And now she covers the fever full time, covering both home and road games and has had a front row seat on one of the more interesting sports stories in the United States in 2024.

1:15.6

relatively new beat for you. And so I would, if you can just give my listeners a little bit of

1:20.8

background. How did it come about that you became the Indiana Fever beat reporter for the Indystar?

1:26.9

Yeah, I did graduate in May of 2023, so I kind of started right after I graduated.

1:34.1

I started at Indy Star.

1:36.2

And I kind of got into covering the fever just because at that point, the fever wasn't,

1:44.0

or they weren't really a big deal, I would say, in, you know,

1:50.8

in the Indianapolis area because, you know, they hadn't had a winning record since, I believe

1:56.2

it was 2017 after Tamika Ketchings retired in 2016. And it kind of was like there wasn't too much interest in covering them or, you know, people reading them.

2:08.6

So for a while, Indy Star had their interns, their summer interns every year, cover the fever.
