0:00.0 | Back here on the cover three podcast live on CBS Sports Network, |
0:04.5 | pleased to be joined by Michigan head coach Sharon Moore. This is two years in a row, coach. We get to kick off the season with a conversation with you. Thank you for coming back and dealing with us. Hope you're doing well. How's Big Ten Media Days treating you this year? It's been awesome, super smooth out here in Vegas, having a good time. Didn't make it out to any clubs or |
0:21.7 | blackjack tables last night. Yet. Didn't plan on it? No. Heading back tonight. You know, tomorrow, our team has a 6 a.m. conditioning test. So we're super excited and ready to go. What is the conditioning test? I'm curious to know. Yeah, it varies for different teams. You know, ours is a 150, 150-yard shuttle. |
0:37.7 | Do it six times, and they all got to be within a time. So, you know, skills are different time than big skills and the O-line-D-line. And it's cool that some of our big skill run with the skills, some of our O-line-D-line run with the big skill, which is pretty challenging. So it's a way to test themselves. I'm going to need like an hour coach. |
0:34.8 | Yeah, me too. |
0:36.8 | They all ask me to do it. |
0:37.9 | I'm not to need like an hour coach. |
0:54.5 | Yeah, me too. |
0:53.6 | They all ask me to do it. I'm not doing that. Danny, did you ever have to do the conditions? We had to do a mile and a half run, which I don't know what the purpose of that was in the sport of football. And then we had to do 1040s, which I would trade those over the 150th any day of the week. Go ahead. |
1:29.4 | I was just going to ask, you know, I asked you last year, you didn't give me the answer. And I'm just thinking, you know, now that you're second time back, we've gotten to know each other. We're more familiar. We're friends. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Who's your starting quarterback? Yeah, I still can't answer that question. |
1:30.9 | Oh, man, we thought. |
1:32.1 | Maybe next year. |
1:35.1 | But, yeah, it'll be a great battle throughout camp. |
1:37.8 | I'm really excited to see all those guys participate. |
1:41.0 | Obviously, you know, really go by age. |
2:35.4 | You know, you go with Mikey Keene, a guy who leads our team in college football snaps. He's got 2029 snaps in college football. And I'm excited to see where he goes and what he does. Jake Garcia is the guy we brought in late. But, you know, there's familiarity with him and Chip Lindsay to see where he goes. Jaden Davis is another guy who's been in the program. And then obviously, Bryce Underwood, it was a highly talented, highly touted guy. So it's going to be a great competition as we get to fall camp. How do you manage those expectations with Bryce Underwood? So much has been made about his contract and him coming to Michigan in the recruiting war that took place. And it's, it's like he's already positioned as the savior for Michigan football, even though that's almost impossible to put on one young man's shoulders. How do you help manage those expectations? Yeah, what's amazing to me is, you know, people put out these contract numbers, which are completely crazy and wild that they think they know anything. So that's the first piece. But two, he's a kid that just wants to be a great teammate and really focused on being about the team and being the best version of himself. So there's been expectations for him |
2:40.6 | his whole life. So I think for him and for us, we have to do a really good job of managing those |
2:45.7 | expectations. And being a quarterback at Michigan, whether you're the start or not, is hard. |
2:51.9 | And there's pressure. |
3:10.7 | There always is. There always will be. So for us, it'll take not only Chip and Coach Senegal, who's the assistant quarterback coach, but me and the village around him to make sure that to help him and stare him in the right direction. Well, how would you compare him? You know, because he's a highly touted five-star freshman. you've had one of those before, and J.J. McCarthy, who's now playing for the Minnesota Vikings, getting ready for his first season as a starter in the NFL. But when they both showed up on campus, comparing him to J.J., how do you feel Bryce stacks up as far as where he is and is being ready to play? Yeah, I mean, as far as pure size, it's way different because he's 6-4 and he's 230 pounds now. |
3:10.9 | But mental... Yeah, I mean, as far as, you know, pure size, it's way different because he's 6-4 and he's |
3:24.9 | 230 pounds now. |
