The subject of my investigation, the disappearance of 9-year-old Melody Buzzard, a girl who went on a road trip with her mom, but never came home. Here's the story.

Nine-year-old Melody Buzzard vanished without a trace after leaving California with her mother

Ashley. What began as a quiet road trip from Santa Barbara County turned into a mystery that's

gripped the nation.

Investigators say Ashley rented a car and drove halfway across the country to Nebraska.

But somewhere along the way, Melody disappeared.

Days later, Ashley was found alone, and now she's refusing to cooperate.

Detectives are retracing every mile of that haunting drive, collecting surveillance footage,

and questioning witnesses who saw the pair together before Melody was gone.

Search teams are scouring highways, fields, and rest stops for any sign of the missing girl. What happened

on that cross-country journey and why won't her own mother help find her child?
