He's going to be talking to us about the small island of Martinique, also a former French colony, arguably still a kind of French colony.

Right now there is chaos in the streets very serious riots going on all to do with

the price of living on the island and the lack of control that the people who live

there have over that it's gone very underreported Louis is going to tell us what's been happening

It's not exactly a kind of headline grabbing place.

I've seen very little coverage on the problems

going on there right now. Maybe just give us some background. So Martinique is

an island that's around 6,800 kilometers away from France, so it's not exactly next door.

And it's part of the, what is commonly known as the French West Indies.

So it's part of the whole cluster of islands where there's Guadalupe,

which are multiple territories, there's Martinique, there's Saint-Artagn Bartel de me and I'm probably forgetting some very small ones

And yeah Martinique is an island over there.

It's in Central America.

And there's around 360,000 people that live there, and it's been a French territory since 1635 was the day,

it was the year France colonized the island after basically genociding the population and turning it into what I mean turning into a slave colony until 1848.
