Now administering third eye drops. He asked me to teach philosophy of religion and typical course where you teach the arguments against guard and then you teach the arguments for God and then the students have to make their own mind up and write their essay.

0:29.0

But I seem to be having evidence pointing in two directions, you know, it's thought the arguments for God and the arguments against God were both pretty compelling.

0:36.0

At some point I just kind of dawned on me the obvious point that actually these things weren't conflicting because traditional arguments that you learn as a

0:44.8

philosophy undergraduate against God's existence were arguing against a very particular

0:50.8

kind of God the arguments that impressed at me for quote unquote God

0:56.1

were actually arguments for something much more generic purpose or directedness

1:02.1

at the fundamental level of reality, what I call cosmic purpose.

Welcome back to the transmission, my friends, and I'm going to be honest with you.

1:47.1

that people like Robert Anton Wilson talk about

1:49.8

is just so intrinsic to what human sense making is. I take the mystery very seriously and I really

1:58.4

think the mystery must stay a mystery because it seems like its encryption just continues to

2:07.9

complexify the more we think we learn about reality the more complicated and nonsensical it gets in a lot of senses.

2:16.2

But anyway, that open-ended appreciation for the mystery is one of the things I really admire

2:21.2

about Dr. Philip Gough. He's quickly becoming known as one of the world's

2:25.9

leading panpsychist philosophers, meaning he holds consciousness to be a fundamental element of reality. But he's also so willing to entertain new ideas and one of those ideas is that we do indeed live in a universe imbued with not only consciousness but purpose,

2:47.2

directionality, but in the sense that it's completely unfinished, it's emerging,

2:51.8

it's evolving, just like we are as individuals and collectively.
