I'm Stuart Mandel, joined as always by Bruce Feldman for our first episode since last week's

national championship game. Bruce, the biggest story in college football right now, as we get

into, start to get into the slower time of year, has been three of the four schools that were

in the semifinals lost their defensive coordinators.

Ohio State, you would not expect to lose a coordinator coming off a national championship season,

but Penn State took Jim Knowles, the defensive coordinator, the excellent defensive coordinator from Ohio State.

And they're paying him more than $3 million a year.

That has never happened.

And people are kind of puzzled.

I mean, if it is just money, okay, but like,

when you're the D.C. at Ohio State, is this move up?

Is it a side move?

Is it a specific, something specific to Penn State?

Like maybe they, I mean, they're certainly going all in on this year's team.

He is a Philly native.

Like he grew up, you know, dad was a Philly detective.

And so I think there's probably some roots there.

But the money is significant.

I also think if you're Jim Knowles, you're almost 60,

you know, if you want to be a head coach, you know, he's been a head coach before he was

head coach at his alma mater, Cornell 20 years ago. But if you want to be a major college coach,
