Summary

Is it time to get scared of COVID, or is the media just back on the hysteria train?

Remember 6 months ago when everyone was trashing Sweden for their coronavirus response? Well guess what, they are looking pretty good right now despite having essentially no lockdowns or other measures in place. In this Controversial Thoughts video I discuss the concept of “dry tinder”, or the amount of any population that is most frail, elderly, and susceptible to illness and how this relates to the impact of COVID in different countries. I also share data regarding the continued importance of being metabolically healthy and having an optimal vitamin D status. As we head into winter how are your vitamin D levels looking, and how metabolically healthy are you?

If you’re interested in my thoughts on the vaccine, I discussed these in much more detail on last week’s controversial thoughts episode. Look for a podcast with @kirkparsley coming next Tuesday elaborating on all of these concepts.

Being metabolically healthy is central to long term quality of life and a robust immune system. #theremembering.

0:35.5

on Black Friday that many of you may have missed and missed your shopping sprees,

0:40.7

in which I talked all about my thoughts on the vaccine.

0:43.7

I'll give you guys a quick rundown of my thoughts on the vaccine. It's from Moderna.

0:47.2

It's from Pfizer. It requires two doses. It's an mRNA vaccine that have been a variety of trials,

0:53.6

which showed some efficacy. A question regarding efficacy with the vaccine is that in those trials,

0:59.1

they only looked at people who are symptomatic for occurrence of COVID.

1:02.5

And in other trials with antibodies or other potential,

1:07.7

antigenic fragments of COVID, they looked at all comers after the vaccine and saw lower rates of efficacy.

1:14.2

So I think that we don't actually have a good notion of the efficacy of the mRNA vaccine right now.

1:20.3

And we don't know what's going to happen long term. As you'll hear on the podcast on Tuesday,

1:25.4

Kirk Parsley and I both agreed that as healthy, metabolically robust individuals,

1:31.5

we would not take a coronavirus vaccine.

1:35.2

First, we would probably wait to see what the potential side effects were long term,

1:38.6

because we don't know what's going to happen with this vaccine.
