I'm excited to present you with an exclusive first listen of the audio trailer for

Mank, the new film directed by David Fincher soon to be released on Netflix.

Mank, which was written by Fincher's father Jack Fincher, tells the story of Herman

Mankowitz, who shared the Oscar for best original screenplay with Orson Wells for Wells's

1941 classic, Citizen Kane.

In Mank, the screenwriter, played by the incredible Gary Oldman, is holed up in a cabin in the

desert on a tight deadline to deliver a script to Wells, struggling with several ailments,

including a broken leg and alcoholism.

Mankowitz becomes consumed with memories of the 1930s when he came to understand how

American power works, through encounters with studio moguls, politicians, and media

barons.

The heart of the story is his friendship with Marion Davies, played by Amanda Sifred.

Davies, of course, was an actress and the longtime mistress of William Randolph Hurst,

who became the inspiration for Charles Foster Kane in Citizen Kane.

Mank includes depictions of a number of real-life characters who we've discussed on this podcast,

Summit Length.

There's Louis B. Mayer and Irving Thalberg, the two power players at MGM in the 1930s.

There's David O'Cell's neck, who would take over the mantle of the most famous producer

in Hollywood, at the end of the decade, with Gone With The Wind.
