Journal about Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania is the keystone of the presidential contest.

Luzerin is one of the keystones of Pennsylvania.

This was once upon a time a heavily Democratic district,

the New Deal Democrats, and Salina explains why it changed so dramatically to the

Republican camp over these last decades. Salina Zito, the Zern County about

a hundred miles from Philadelphia in the east of the state.

Wilkes-Barre is the largest city in Lezern.

Rural and used to be factories.

So the Democrats in Luzerin County, like Democrats across Pennsylvania, tend to be more culturally conservative on issues like abortion

and guns and fiscal responsibility. Those issues are part of the old New Deal

coalition that have now moved over into the Republican Party platform.

And that, I would say, has a lot to do it.

That bad trade deals, the elimination of coal,

that also contributes it. the reason there's not

shoe factories and dress factories in in Luzerne a place places where people had

jobs for 30, 40 years is because of trade.

The trade deals killed them of those dress factories and shoe factories are in China now.
