Hello everyone. I'm Dana Perino along with Emily Campano, Kennedy, Joey Jones, and Greg Gutfeld. It's 5 o'clock in New York City, and this is the five.

And now he is the commander in culture. President Trump at the Kennedy Center in D.C. today as he ushers in a golden age of cultural dominance for

Republicans. 47 was there to personally announce this year's Kennedy Center honorees. Big names like

George Strait, Sylvester Stallone, Gloria Gaynor, and Rock Band Kiss will be getting that award

with none other than President Trump set to host the big event. And word is, he's got a few surprises up his sleeve.

The Kennedy Center honors have been among the most prestigious awards in the performing arts.

I wanted one. I was never able to get one.

This year, it's true, actually.

I would have taken it if they would have called me.

I waited and waited and waited.

And I said, hell with it. I'll become chairman. And I'll give myself an honor. Maybe I'm going to honor. Next year we'll honor Trump, okay? You reverse me a venue for performing arts anywhere in the country, anywhere in the world. And the Kennedy Center isn't the only place you can feel Trump's cultural shakeup. The left wanted to cancel Sydney Sweeney over that great jeans ad saying it was a racist dog whistle, but American Eagle held its ground and refused to pull the campaign.

And now we are learning that only 12% of people found the Sweeney ad campaign offensive.

And then over at the White House are calling for a comprehensive review of eight Smithsonian museums.

The goal apparently is to make sure they're in line with the president's push to celebrate American exceptionalism,

ditch the device of politics, and rebuild trust in the country's cultural institution.

That did not go over very well with the left.

I learned in history class that this is how authoritarians operate. They take over the arts,

they take over the culture, they take over the museum. Purging history and pilfering museums is pretty high up on the autocratic checklist. I'd be worried about the Black Lives Matter exhibit.
