Well, it has something to do with this.

We were going to do an in-memorium this year,

but when I saw the list of people that had died,

it wasn't diverse enough.

It just, no.

It was mostly white people. And thought no not on my watch.

Maybe next year. Let's let's see what happens.

As most of you will know that was was Ricky Jervais, hosting the golden globes a few weeks ago,

and roasting the pieties of his Hollywood audience in the process.

As most of you will also know, Jervais monologue became a lightning rod on social media for days thereafter,

with some commentators citing it as proof that maybe, just maybe,

we might be witnessing an important moment of cultural inflection.
