podcast, where today we're going to be studying Exodus chapters one through six that intriguing

story of Moses, and we have with us today a special guest to help us explore these scriptures.

And that guest is our dear friend, Daniel Peterson, who's a newly retired professor now,

is that an oxymoron newly retired? I don't know what that means actually, because I don't

think you're anything, you're nothing. I think you forgot. You forgot what the meaning

of the word is, but a newly retired professor of Islamic studies at Brigham Young University

where he founded and led the Middle Eastern texts initiative. He has studied and taught in Jerusalem

and Cairo. He feels very comfortable in the Middle East. He's the author of several books,

and the first and current editor-in-chief of Interpreter, a journal of Latter-day Saint Faith

and Scholarship. He also has a daily blog on Hathios called Sick a Known. He also has recently

become a film producer with his wife, Deborah, of the feature film, witnesses of the Book of Mormon,

and then a companion documentary called Undaunted. Now we'll put the links in our script for those

I think Dan, that Egypt is such a part of your life, you probably met her ancient phrases and

Arabic things at night. I don't know if Deborah could bow to that, but it's certainly a part of your

whole being, isn't it? It is. That's right. When you talk in your sleep, is it in English? I don't know.

Well, today we want to explore these these scriptures and we start with such an interesting idea

that now there was a Pharaoh in Egypt who knew not Joseph. So can you give us some context about

this? How long has it been to any degree that we can figure it out since the date of Joseph?

And what has happened to the ruling dynasty in Egypt? Yeah, you know, the problem is complicated,

probably made insoluble to an extent by the fact that we don't have a name for this Pharaoh. He's
