Summary

How can we become better at praying? It is a question that most of us ask ourselves as serious disciples of Jesus Christ. In these chapters from the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord Himself teaches us how to pray. If the Lord says this is how we should pray, then, there is something deep to learn.

You're not going to be here. Welcome. We're Scott and Maureen Proctor and this is Meridian magazine's Come Follow Meantecast. This week the lesson is on Matthew, Chapter 6 and 7, which is a continuation of the

sermon on the mount called He Taught them as One Having Authority.

And we're going to start by looking at something we all want to know more about, and that is how to make our prayers more effective.

And so here we have the Lord himself teaching us how to pray in this chapter 6 of the sermon on the mount with the Lord's prayer.

And if the Lord says this is how we should pray, there's something deep to learn about this.

One of the first things he says before he gives us what we call the Lord's prayer,

he says in verse six, but thou, when thou prayest,

enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door pray to thy father which is in secret and

thy father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

This opens a wonderful array of thinking about choosing a location for us to pray.

That's one of the first things we do is figure out where we're going to pray because it does make a difference.

I love my morning prayers when I go in the closet and I can be very private and I can pray out loud and sometimes

those prayers go on a long time because I just feel like I'm just right there with him.

And Alma 34 elaborates on this about time and with him

for mercy for he is my

and place it starts in verse 18 where it says cry into him for mercy for he is mighty to save

and then it goes on to talking about all the places we should pray.

Cry unto him when you're in your fields. Yay over all your flocks. Cry into him in your houses.

Yay over all your household. Cry unto him against the power of your enemies, etc.

This is such a wonderful idea because the sense is that you can cry into him in prayer
