This year, the Doctrine and Covenants.

Welcome back to all those who joined us last year.

It's beautiful to be with you.

And for those who joined us for the first time,

we hope you find great joy in digging deep into

the scriptures, learning and applying the gospel.

Today, we'll be focusing on Doctrine and Covenants.

Section 1, the Lord's preface, the Doctrine and Covenants.

Now, since this is a new year, and as we're bidding farewell to 2020 and saying hello to 2021,

I wanted to begin with just a little scenario to set the stage for everything that we're

going to cover this year. It's told through a parable-like story, just a made-up story to teach a principal. I first heard this story years

ago on my mission from a friend, Brandon Brager. And it's just a delightful little way to describe

what we're trying to accomplish. Once upon a time, there was a ward of chickens.

This was a good ward, and the bishop of that ward

got tired of watching his ward members walk to church every Sunday
