Today, Joseph Smith History, chapter 1, verse 27 through 65, and Doctrine and Covenant

section 2.

And just to put the context in place, we're with Joseph Smith in Palmyra at his home.

Now, this is a section of scripture that is loaded.

We're going to go all over the place.

We're going to be in the Pearl of Great Price, we're going to be in the Doctrine and Covenants,

we're going to be in the Book of Mormon, we're going to be in the Doctrine and Covenants, we're going to be in

the Book of Mormon, we're going to be in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Why is that?

Because in this event, what we have is Maroni is given that assignment to be the tutor,

maybe the personal mentor of this new prophet, age 17, the profit of the dispensation of the fullness of times.

By the way, we often look at prophetic visitations from a mortal perspective, from an earthly

perspective, and we think, wow, Joseph Smith got to see the angel

Maroni. I've often wondered what it might be like for some of these angels on the other side

of the veil. Can you imagine what it would be like to be Maroni and to be given the assignment from the Savior to go

down and be the personal tutor, the personal mentor, or the prophet of the restoration,

Joseph Smith. I would imagine that in an angelic sort of a way, Maroni is just as excited about that encounter
