This is Book of Mormon Central's Come Follow Me Insights.

Today, the book of Second Samuel and the first part of First Kings.

Yeah, this particular lesson covers a wide swath of time and some really, really important elements that are going to come

into play. So let's just get the landscape in an overview setting really, really quickly first.

Remember, we came from a rule of judges. Then they wanted a king. Last week's lesson to be like all other nations.

So we got Saul. In this lesson today, we're going to start out with Saul and Jonathan, his son,

being killed in chapter 1 of 2nd Samuel. He'll be replaced by King David, who will then be replaced by

his son, Solomon, who will then have some amazing experiences, building the temple, building

up the kingdom of Israel like never before, but pride goeth before the fall, and we end up with a split in the

family. A highly significant event here when you get Solomon's son Rehoboam taking over

Rehobe, and the kingdoms up north follow Jeroboam and split off.

So for the first time ever you're going to get the 10 tribes up north, the two tribes

down south with this split family, not terribly unlike the idea of Nephites, Lamanites, where there's

this split and then they become enemies. And so you're going to get multiple kings, multiple

prophets up north, and you're going to get multiple kings and multiple prophets down in the south,
