0:07.4	We've put together two big files for the Fall of 98 series, so that you can listen seamlessly without all of the intros and outros.
0:15.6	We tried to do one file, but it was too big, so this is episodes 1 through 3, and the following one will be episodes 4 and 5.

0:44.6	I grew up where three medium-sized towns all come together and form a little city.
0:50.4	It was called the Tri-Cities. My town was just past the suburbs.
0:56.4	It wasn't rural exactly. Think of the very edge of a big metro area, and then imagine the next town past it.
1:06.5	That was us. I grew up in church, and I really liked it there. It was the place where I'd always
1:15.4	felt most comfortable. I looked forward to seeing my friends on Sunday mornings, and again on
1:22.1	Sunday and Wednesday nights. Friends from school came and went, but those core friendships from church
1:29.4	always stayed the same. The church was still pretty small when I was a little kid, but a new pastor
1:38.4	took over while I was in elementary school. And over the next few years, the church grew fast.
1:45.2	In just a couple of years, they were building a whole new wing with a huge new sanctuary to accommodate
1:50.3	everyone. The new side of the building was almost twice the size of the old side.
1:56.5	That meant more families, and with more families, more kids were coming to youth group too.
2:02.3	A few years later, they started building again. This time, a big youth wing on the other side of
2:09.3	the original building. There was a gym with a basketball court, a big youth group area with
2:15.5	couches and TVs and game consoles, with all the new people, and especially all the new kids in
2:23.0	youth group. Things were different than those early days when we were just a few very closely
2:28.9	knit families. But that just meant that there were more friends to love. And there was still
2:36.4	something special about that core group of us that had been here forever.
