0:02.7	CNN projections tonight that when all the votes are counted, Republicans will control

0:07.6	That, along with Democratic control of the Senate, means a whole new political world in Washington
0:12.4	and new challenges, certainly, for the Biden administration.
0:15.0	Monorajus starts us off from the Capitol tonight.
0:17.6	So what happens now?
0:18.6	Well, the first order of business for Kevin McCarthy is to secure the votes to become the
0:24.0	next House Speaker behind the scenes.
0:25.8	He has been moving to lockdown the votes.
0:27.9	He is about 30 votes shy right now.
0:29.9	He needs 218 in the first week of January in order to become Speaker.
0:34.1	It's unclear if he can get there.
0:35.6	He's confident he ultimately will be, but there are Republican members in the conservative
0:39.2	flank demanding some concessions.
0:41.3	And then there's a question about the Republican agenda, which is still being formed.
0:45.6	They are expected to have a narrow majority, which will make governing incredibly difficult.
0:50.1	Even passing messaging bills that have no chance of passing the Democratic Senate will
0:54.0	still require compromise between the conservative and moderate wings of his conference.
0:58.5	And also major issues like raising the national debt ceiling next year, extending government
1:03.2	funding to avoid a potential shutdown.
1:05.6	Those are big ticket items that will be on his plate in a Republican majority.
