| 0:00.0 | Well, welcome to the podcast. |
| 0:01.4 | And before we dive into today's episode, I am here with David Kinneman, and we are doing our monthly State of the Church update. |
| 0:09.3 | And David, I want to talk for a couple of minutes about some of the surprising data, like actually more encouraging data, about trends you've uncovered related to church attendance among young adults. |
| 0:19.6 | What are you seeing? |
| 0:21.2 | Well, we found some really interesting data that I think will encourage church leaders, |
| 0:25.1 | and that is that millennials and Gen Z are now the most frequent churchgoers. |
| 0:30.0 | That is reversing decades of trends where older adults are usually the most likely and |
| 0:35.0 | regular church attenders. So I actually think we've come up with a way of measuring church attendance that is more |
| 0:40.5 | relevant to pastors. |
| 0:42.4 | Typically, social researchers talk about have you attended church in the last seven days, |
| 0:46.4 | yes or no. |
| 0:48.1 | That is subject to people's, let's say, halo effect or lying about their attendance, but, you know, |
| 0:55.9 | we know that it's about a third. |
| 0:57.0 | Exaggerating. |
| 0:58.5 | About a third of all Americans say they've attended in the last seven days. |
| 1:02.0 | That's up somewhat from the last couple years, and it's up significantly from COVID. |
| 1:08.5 | But what we came up with was a way of measuring among active churchgoers the number of |
| 1:13.9 | times per month that they attend. |
| 1:16.6 | So we know that the average is 1.6 times per month that a churchgoer attends. |
| 1:22.3 | I think that's very relevant to church leaders because you know, |
| 1:25.1 | you're looking at like how many times will people come? |
| 1:28.0 | That's a little bit less than 40% of the time. |
