All right, Brian, in part two today's show here in the Irish Breakdown podcast, brought to by our friends over at Fandul. We're going to talk about C.J. Carr, Notre Dame's quarterback, returning for the 2026 season. First time they've had a returning starting quarterback since 2020. It's kind of in the same line of the news that broke in the transfer portal, but a little bit different. Screenshotted it and send it to you and Vince and Sean Davis this morning,

that Fandul has released their odds for, like really early odds for 2026 Heisman contenders.

And the list that I saw initially, you can expand the list, but the first six that I saw included C.J. Carr's name.

But one thing that's really, really cool is that

C.J. Carr is tied for first at plus 800 odds with Arch Manning from Texas as the likely

winner as of today to win the 2026 Heisman Trophy. So we wanted to break that down and talk about it.

And Brian, this is really good news. And we talked about this in a show about a week ago,

about we can't remember the last time in Notre Dame quarterback was probably going to enter

a season with this much kind of notoriety and hype around them that C.J. Carr is going to

this year. It's going to be a fun ride, man. It is. And, you know, I mean, like there was like

some talk about like Riley Leonard and Sam Hartman as being potential Heisman contenders.

They were like, you know, other names to know type of category, right? You know what I mean? It's like when you look at the top 25, it's like also receiving votes.

You know what I mean? Like that's kind of the equivalent of those guys. I mean, we've seen that. Obviously, Ian Book finished what ninth in Heisman Trophy voting in 2020, which was made easier by the fact that like one league only played seven games, another league only played five games. You know, those things kind of helped a little bit with that. You know, he was a top 10 Heisman finalists in a year. We threw 15 touchdown passes, you know, the year that he put up numbers that basically matched what Fernand, almost did it again, Trev. Fernando Mendoza did this year. He, you know, wasn't even in the top 10. But, I mean, it's since probably, I mean, even, but Jimmy Claussen wasn't considered a Heisman contender in 2009 because Notre Dame wasn't very good.

You know, you'd probably have to go back to Brady Quinn in 2006 the last time Notre Dame has had a quarterback that's going to be getting the kind of height going into a season that C.

CJ is going to have.

And, you know, I think it comes down to a scenario, Trev, where it makes sense.

I think it's justified, both of them.

Like, it's funny, you and I were texting, I think it was during the Texas, Michigan game,

where Arch's season went exactly how you and I said it was going to go. He was going to

struggle early. People needed to be patient. They weren't going to. They were going to call him a bus.

And he's not what we thought he was. And then the more start to get under his belt, the the better he's going to play and then he's going to go into next year as a top quarterback

that's exactly how a season went the last month of the season for arch was very good very good
