Summary

I had the chance to try out the Sony RX1R II last week while I was in New York. This is a top-of-the-line camera from Sony which features a compact body paired with a 42 megapixel sensor and fixed 35mm f/2 lens. This is probably the best camera in terms of image quality that I have used to date. The highlight for me is the impressive 35mm lens which is way more versatile and has much better range than I expected it to have. Though its missing a few features for video, this is an extremely impressive camera from Sony. Now if I can just figure out a way to actually buy one… Get it from Amazon http://amzn.to/21b2Rbt Get it from B&H http://goo.gl/Kjc2KE This video is sponsored by AudiblePodcast. I've got a camera that I would like to share with you guys in this video and this is the

0:03.1

Sony RX 1R Mark 2. Now this is a compact camera that features a full-frame sensor and a fixed

0:10.1

35 millimeter F2 lens. I was in New York last week working on the next two videos for the artist series

0:16.0

and I had the opportunity to borrow this camera for that trip and before I

0:19.2

return it I want to do a review because I am completely blown away.

0:23.1

I think in terms of just having a still camera

0:26.4

that excels for street photography and general usage,

0:29.0

I don't think you can find a better camera right now

0:31.0

in the market.

0:31.6

And that's a big thing, I think. You know for me the

0:35.2

Rx 1 series and this is actually the third version that Sony has released hasn't appealed to me that

0:41.1

much because I knew the video capabilities were slightly lacking

0:44.2

and then that combined with the really high price tag, it's $3,300 US is about the street price.

0:49.7

And you have a fixed focal length lens of 35 millimeters, which is a focal length I'm not really used to working with.

0:55.0

And so it's never really been on my radar but after shooting on this for a while I have completely

0:59.6

changed my mind on these. This is an incredible camera. The things that drew me to this, I mean I think the big

1:05.4

feature on here is the lens, believe it or not. The lens is absolutely beautiful. There's a lot of

1:10.4

versatility and range that you get out of this lens. 35mm is a good focal length for

1:15.8

street photography because it's not super wide but it's also not super tight so you can

1:19.8

get enough in, you can do a lot of zooming with your feet, as we say, and this is capable of a lot of coverage.

1:27.1

The fact that you have a 42 megapixel sensor in here, I guess if you had to crop, you definitely

1:31.7

have room to do it if you need to get in
